The Power of a Few Tiny Changes

In the first month of 2024, I made a few small adjustments in my life. Here’s a quick rundown:

  1. I now go to bed at 23:00 and wake up at 7:00. I transitioned to this schedule after noticing that if I don’t get enough sleep, most of my day is wasted.
  2. To combat my addiction with games, I put my gaming laptop in a place more difficult to reach. I find it less enjoyable to go through the process of taking everything off the top, setting up the stand, and connecting the cables. Not playing games naturally becomes a better option. When I go through all the actions required to play a game, I often feel that the effort was not worth it.
  3. I left my phone in another room, where it permanently charges. That way, it stays out of my sight while I work and is always ready if I need to leave the house. I also removed all social media apps and only left Duolingo (I reached a 30-day streak today).
  4. I’m writing more notes like this one. I found a better app for writing notes and moved all my notes there. To make the process even easier, I left only my notes app on my phone’s main screen.
  5. I started cooking at home with my girlfriend. This cut my food expenses by more than half. I also discovered that it’s not that hard after asking my friends for recipes. Following friends’ recipes is more fun.
  6. I recommend people to read “Atomic Habits”, the same way as vegans promote veganism. I’m not sure if veganism is still a thing, and I don’t know another metaphor like that.
  7. I read more and seem to enjoy it.
  8. I allow my brain to wander around, satisfying its curiosity, and I don’t try to deny it something just because it might not be useful. I started to consider reading more artistic literature, just for the sake of a mind journey.
  9. I discovered how disagreeable I am, even with myself (especially with myself). This observation made me a bit more aware of what I want to say and why.
  10. Wow! That’s a list of ten items. The last item creates a smooth transition to end the post. The reader is satisfied with the list and leaves a like*.

*Unless it’s a blog post. I don’t have likes on my blog. Thanks for reading though!
